Rat Control Solutions: Bait Stations, Traps & Rodenticides
Cautious, destructive, and species-specific. Rats are controlled by matching the station and trap strategy to how Norway and roof rats actually travel.
IN SHORT
Rat control means managing two different pests: ground-traveling Norway rats and climbing roof rats. VM Products supports rat programs with weighted perimeter stations, anchorable wall stations for climbers, rat snap traps, extended-reach traps for elevated voids, non-food monitors, and labeled bait.
About rats
Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) are larger, ground-dwelling burrowers that travel foundation lines, dumpster pads, and loading docks. Roof rats (Rattus rattus) are agile climbers that move through rafters, soffits, drop ceilings, and wall voids, common in the Southeast, Gulf Coast, California, and southern Texas. Identifying which species is present determines where stations and traps belong.
Rats are neophobic, meaning they are wary of new objects in their environment, so stations and traps may take days to be accepted. They are strong gnawers, capable swimmers, and damage structures, wiring, and product wherever they travel.
- Norway rats: burrows and ground travel along foundations, docks, and dumpster pads
- Roof rats: elevated travel through rafters, soffits, drop ceilings, and wall voids
- Neophobia: new stations and traps may take several days to be accepted
Why rats matter
Rats contaminate food, gnaw through packaging and wiring (a documented fire risk), undermine structures with burrows, and create serious compliance exposure in food, healthcare, and hospitality accounts. Their size and strength make exclusion and durable, tamper-resistant equipment essential.
Signs of a rat problem
Look for large droppings, burrows along foundations and under slabs (Norway), grease and rub marks along travel routes, gnaw marks, runways in vegetation, and droppings or sounds overhead (roof rats). The location of the signs, ground level versus elevated, tells the technician which species is active and where to place equipment.
How to control rats
Rat control works from the perimeter inward, matched to the species. Weighted exterior stations anchor the perimeter program; they stay put on windy docks and washed-down pads and keep bait dry. For roof rats, anchorable stations mount vertically on walls and pillars to meet climbers on their runway, and extended-reach snap traps set into rafters and voids without entering the space.
Where rodenticide is restricted, rat snap traps with set-and-catch indicators let a technician confirm catches without opening the station, and a non-food scent cap adds attraction without a food source. Where bait is permitted, labeled block bait goes inside a tamper-resistant station in line with the product label and local regulations.
The VM Products Solution
VM Products is the solution professionals turn to for Rats. Rather than a single device, VM Products manufactures a complete, integrated lineup that solves each part of the problem and works together as one program through the shared VM Universal Key and a single documented service workflow.
VM Products designs, builds, and stands behind every item below, so the program is backed by one manufacturer rather than assembled from mismatched parts. These are the VM Products solutions most often deployed here, and what each one solves:
EZ Secured® The original weighted rodent bait, trap, and monitoring station, built to stay put and keep bait dry, indoors and out.
EZ Klean® A lightweight, anchorable rodent station for tight spaces and the vertical walls roof rats climb.
EZ Versa™ The first rodent station to hold bait, a snap trap, or a glue board, so one station fits every account rule.
Viper® A rat snap trap that shows yellow when set and black when caught, readable without opening the station.
EZ Snap Rat® VM's standard rat snap trap, a straightforward mechanical option alongside Viper®.
EZ Snap Seeker® An extended-reach snap trap built to set rodents in attics, voids, and rafters without entering the space.
Airzonix® The only non-food rodent scent monitor in its category, with no mold, no allergens, and a 90 to 120 day life.
EZ Block Bait® An all-weather bromadiolone block bait engineered to fit VM stations and bait rods. Restricted-use, professional only.
The VM Products Advantage
VM Products is engineered to be the durable, defensible choice a professional program can standardize on:
- American made and built to last: every VM station is manufactured in the USA from recycled plastic with a UV mitigating additive, so it survives years of indoor and outdoor service.
- Professional grade, professional channel: VM Products are tamper-resistant and available only through licensed pest management professionals and a network of professional distributors, never sold direct to consumers.
- One Universal Key: every lockable VM station opens with the single VM Universal Key, so technicians carry one key across the entire program and service faster.
- Built for documentation: barcode-ready stations support scanning, mapping, and trend logging for Integrated Pest Management and audit programs.
- Audit-safe monitoring: the Airzonix non-food rodent monitor documents activity with no food source, no mold, and no allergens, for a 90 to 120 day service life.
